The Third day He rose again from the dead!!!

Second part, of  the Fifth Article of the Apostle’s Creed

Jesus’ Resurrection

We have talked, actually typed and hopefully read, wink wink, much of what has been written on this blog about Our Dear Lord and His life and death. Now we need to look at the true historical event that took place on that First Easter Sunday! I have to say, I love meditating on the Glorious Mysteries  of Our Lord and Lady’s Holy Rosary, especially on this mystery in particular ; Jesus’ Resurrection. In the words on Father Fernbeck, ” can you just imagine, ” seeing Our Blessed Lord’s resurrection, actually seeing Him come out of that tomb in His Glorified state at that ! It truly is a mystery worth meditating and praying on with much regularity. So, as I have stated here before, this blog deals with the TRUE TEACHINGS of The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, and this part of the catechesis is also part of our Faith. I cannot stress with enough emphasis that Jesus’ Resurrection is not just a strict mystery, but a  historical ,reasonable and credible, recorded event  that can be substantiated and proved through the many historic documents and witness testimonies that are still available to us today. As St Paul saids in 1 Corinthian 15:[14]And if Christ be not risen again, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.” We know, for a fact that Jesus truly raised Himself from the dead, by His own Divine Power because of the testimony of His disciples and the hundreds of other witnesses that saw Him. If you do not believe this, than no reasonable, sane person could ever believe in any recorded history or person that existed for that matter, that has ever been written about at almost anytime in history. We have much more historical, recorded history detailing about Jesus’ life death and resurrection than we do about any historian before or even after His time on earth including Josephus among the Jews, Caesar and Pliny among the Romans, and Herodotus and Thucydides, Plato and Aristotle among the Greeks. So, it is a very reasonable, historical and credible mystery, to believe in Our Lord and His Glorious Resurrection. One other historical, recorded proof  just amazes and adds tremendous credibility to the truth of Our Lord’s Resurrection , is the fact of the willing, courageous martyrdom of 11 of the 12 Apostle’s and the many disciples and witnesses of Our Lord’s Resurrection . So many of the same Apostles and disciples who originally abandoned our Lord because of fear, most heroically went willing to their death for Him only after having seen Our Lord  after He raised Himself from the dead. We know to this day where many of those Apostles and disciples are actually buried today! Yes, today, we can visit the Holy Relics of many of the first martyrs, many are in Rome at St Peters Basilica and all over Rome for that matter. People don’t willingly die for something they don’t believe in, they just don’t. Especially not the way so many of the disciples of Jesus did, who happily, joyfully, and willingly were martyred giving witness and true testimony to Our Risen Lord! We still have martyrs today, look at Syria and Iraq in particular, and please pray for our brothers and sisters in the middle east especially!

I will continue more on Jesus’ Resurrection shortly

May God Bless us and protect us from the world, ourselves and the devil

He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead!

The  Fifth  Article of the  Apostle’s  Creed

harrowing of hell

” He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead “

when we hear the word  “Hell,” I believe what comes to some peoples minds is the burning furnace of Hell, the smell of sulphur,  where the demons of satan are running about everywhere, unchecked, tearing souls apart, limb from limb in an everlasting fire, howling and screaming, uneneding suffering and absolute hopelessness, deprived of ever seeing God. Something say, from the imagery detailed in Dantes Inferno, his Divine Comedy. Now, I must state this plainly, I do not suggest at all that this “Hell” is not real, however, this is not the “Hell” that we are going to be covering in the Fifth Article of the Apostle’s Creed. The Hell  that  Jesus descended into is also known as “the abode of the dead,”  or the Limbo of the Fathers, or the underworld or Sheol in Hebrew, or Hades in Greek. This is the place, where the souls of the just were dwelling. The souls of the Old Testament Saints would have been there awaiting Our Dear Lords arrival. the souls of Adam and Eve, Moses, king David, Samuel the Prophet, Ruth, Isaiah, Daniel, Jeremiah, the Maccabean Martyrs, St Joseph and even St John the Baptist would have been their waiting for Our Lords arrival, and so many more. This Hell, was definitely a much better Hell to be in, than that other Hell that we will be discussing in another post. I believe this is why in more modern versions of the Creed we hear or read, that “He descended to the dead.” I have to admit, that I am not favourable to any change in any Creed or teaching to the Church at all, however, this particular change from the word “hell” to” dead” seems to make some sense and clear up a misconception. But, I still say “Hell” regardless! The word would never have to be changed to” dead” if ALL Pastors of souls didn’t shy away from the teachings of Hell and properly catechize ALL truths of the Faith and make the distinction between the two hells.

Jesus descended to the underworld after He died to visit the souls of the just who had died up to that time and were detained in the limbo of the Fathers. His descent was a manifestation of His power and authority over ALL Creation, including the underworld. Christ visited the just souls not with His body but with His soul, united with His Divinity, because Jesus truly died as we learned in the previous post. You may be asking, why would just souls be detained in limbo? Simple answer, sin! Christ came to save us from sin, He alone could open the gates of heaven to us and restore friendship with God, He is our Redeemer! If you take notice of the art I chose for this post, also referred to as  “The Harrowing of Hell,” it shows the doors of hell busted down by Our Lord, and He is carrying the Standard of Salvation. Can you just imagine the joy that the just souls must have had when that door was smashed down by Our Lord. However, we have to remember a very important point; the souls of the just did not immediately enter heaven after Jesus preached salvation to them and gave them the Good News. The souls of the just in limbo, still had to wait 40 days until Jesus’ ascension into Heaven, only after that, were the souls of the just able to enjoy the Beatific Vision and have a true face to face with God!

Next post we will look at the second part of this article that deals with the Resurrection of Our Lord!

May God protect us from the world, the devil, and ourselves!

BREAKING: URGENT STATEMENT OF THE CHALDEAN PATRIARCH On Alarming Situation of 130,000 Refugees and Other Grave Matters   this from Rorate Caeli Blog

Rorate was sent a Declaration by the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch, Louis-Raphael I Sako, on several urgent aspects and the grave risk in which Iraqi Christians and other refugees still find themselves.

Baghdad – Iraq

Death and sickness are taking hold of the children and elderly people among the thousands of refugee families spread over the Kurdistan Region who lost everything in the recent tragic developments while the ISIS Militants are still advancing and the humanitarian aid is insufficient.
There are seventy thousand displaced Christians in Ankawa [Erbil] along with the other minorities in this city that has a population of more than twenty-five thousand Christians. The families who found shelter inside the churches or schools are in a rather good condition while those who are still sleeping in the streets and public parks are in a deplorable situation…
In Dohuk, the number of Christian refugees’ amount to more than 60.000 and their situation is worse than those in Erbil. There are also families who found shelters in Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah, as well as some have arrived as far as in the capital city of Baghdad.
While the humanitarian needs are escalating: housing, food, water, medicine and funds, the lack of international coordination is slowing and limiting the realization of an effective assistance to these thousands awaiting immediate support. The Churches are offering everything within their capacity.
To summarize the situation of the Christian villages around Mosul up to the borders of Kurdistan Region: the churches are deserted and desecrated; five bishops are out of their bishoprics, the priests and nuns left their missions and institutions leaving everything behind, the families have fled with their children abandoning everything else! The level of disaster is extreme.
The position of the American president Obama only to give military assistance to protect Erbil is disappointing. The talks about dividing Iraq are threatening. The Americans are not up to a rapid solution to give hope specifically as they are not going to attack the ISIS in Mosul and in the Nineveh Plain. The confirmation that this terrible situation will continue until the Iraqi Security Forces will fight along with Peshmerga against the ISIS militants is very depressing. The President of the Kurdistan Region said that the Kurdish troops are fighting with a terrorist State and not minor groups! While the country is under fire, the politicians in Baghdad are fighting for power.

At the end, perhaps, Mosul will not be liberated neither the villages in the Nineveh Plain. There is no strategy to dry up the sources of manpower and the resources of these Islamic terrorists. They control the oil town of Zumar and the oil fields of Ain Zalah and Batma along with the oil fields of Al-Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor in Syria. The Islamic extremist fighters are joining them from different countries around the world.
The choices of refugee families:
Migration: where and do they have the necessary documents and money?
To stay: in the halls and in the refugee camps, waiting the summer to end and winter to come? Will the schools be reopened and will their children go to elementary schools, high schools or colleges? Will they be welcomed in the schools in Erbil, Duhok and Sulaymaniyah? What is the future of the properties and belongings, along with the jobs, of these thousands of innocent people forced to fee overnight from their dear villages?
These are questions that should inflict pain in the conscience of every person and organization so that something should be done to save this people that have their history in this land from their beginnings.

Dear Friend,

About a month ago, I wrote to you about the terrified Christians of Iraq — trapped between the armed extremists of ISIS and Iraqi government forces. Many people responded with extreme generosity. If you were among them, I thank you very much for your donation.

But I’ve received alarming new reports from our regional staff. The nightmare was only just beginning. As ISIS escalates its rampage of hate, thousands of families have now been forced to run for their lives. You can help them by clicking here.

Last night, the Iraqi town of Qaraqosh fell to ISIS,
and more than 100,000 Christians are fleeing in terror.
That’s right, 100,000 Christians. Patriarch Louis Raphael I of the Chaldean Catholic Church shared that it is “an exodus… Christians are walking on foot in Iraq’s searing summer heat towards the Kurdish cities… They are facing a human catastrophe and risk a real genocide.”

Local sisters, priests and religious workers are scrambling to provide shelter. Local villagers are struggling to provide food and water. But it just isn’t enough.

Most of these Christians are women, children or elderly.
And ISIS wants to expel or destroy them all.
Right this minute, Iraq’s Christian families face absolute annihilation. Yes, they’re in our prayers. But they need more: the strongest support we can give.

Any contribution you can make will help CNEWA
ease the suffering of these frightened families.
So please send your gift now by clicking here.
Pope Francis appeals “to the international community to take initiatives to put an end to the humanitarian drama underway… to ensure the necessary aid for so many displaced people whose fate depends on the solidarity of others.”

What will happen next? I’m afraid we’ll soon find out. But with your support, CNEWA will walk with these courageous Christians. Whatever happens and wherever they go.

Remember: The help you give today could mean the difference between life and death for these families.

Thank you and God bless you,

Your Excellencies the Presidents of the Bishops’ Conferences
The Christians of Iraq face an enormous tragedy
The Christians of Mosul (Nineveh Province, Iraq), horrified, have fled the city with only the clothes they were wearing. Their churches have been profaned and on August 2, a mass migration took place from the villages of Telkev, Batnaya and Telleskuf as, knowing that the small town of Sinjar alongside other neighboring villages had fallen and seventy persons had been massacred, gave rise to panic. There, on Monday, August 4, ISIL commenced the bombardment of the village of Telkef and a young Christian was killed. This having been said, it is evident that there is practically no collaboration between the central government and that of the Kurdish Region and, in addition to that, the new government is not yet formed!
As for our political parties, they have failed in every tangible manner, and this for reasons well known to everyone as well as to each of these parties themselves.
As for the Church, she finds herself completely alone, more than ever; nevertheless her leaders are strongly required to react before it is too late in applying the necessary pressure on the international community as well as those other decision-makers in view of fundamental answers necessary to the scandalous crimes and the destructive conspiracies that affect, above all, unarmed citizens in Iraq, Syria, and in Palestine – Gaza.
It should be noted that the motivation for all of these killings is the lust for everything that lies beneath the earth like oil and gas…what else explains this war so curiously radicalised and, as if following an excellently premeditated plan, does not take the least account of the destinies of the people.
We are equally shocked and indignant with the absence of a vigorous position taken by Muslims and their religious leaders, not the least because the actions of these factions represent a menace for Muslims themselves.
In fact, speeches are good for nothing, so too declarations that rehash condemnations and indignation; the same can be said for protest marches. In addition, while appreciating the generosity of our donors, we would say that donations and fundraising too are not what will solve our problems. We have to demand a large-scale administrative [governmental] operation on an international level. There is in fact the need for awareness, in conscience, regarding this simple human principle: the demand for real actions and solidarity because we are before a crisis related to our very existence, facing the fact that “we will be or we will not be.”
This is an appeal from the bottom of the heart in the search for a solution that lies uniquely in the hands of the international community and above all with the great powers. We address ourselves profoundly to their consciences and that they should review their positions and to re-evaluate the impact of the situation of today.
These powers face a human and moral responsibility. It is no longer reasonable to take recourse to double standards. They are called to free themselves from their narrow interests and to unite themselves in a political and peacekeeping solution that puts an end to this conflict. These powers must vigorously exercise pressure on those who support financially and train militarily these factions and so cut short these sources of violence and radicalisation.
Concerning the Christians of Iraq, in our pastoral ministry towards them, we also call upon the international community: our Christians are in urgent need of humanitarian aid, as too they are in need of an efficient, true and permanent protection that reassures them that there is no end to their existence, whose origins are so deeply rooted in Iraq; this also concerns Christians in other regions of the Middle East that are burning and being torn apart.
We also appeal to our brothers and sisters around the world, that they too be truly with us in solidarity at this our time of suffering this terrible ordeal; that they live with us this feeling of solidarity as if belonging to the same family.
We are in need of a communion of the heart, and for prayers with our faithful during this terrible ordeal as we experienced during the visit of the delegation of Bishops of France presided by His Eminence Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, Archbishop of Lyon.
We remain believing in dialogue, exchange and conviviality.
That God may grant us the grace and possibility to overcome this trial, that He remove from all hearts all hatred and violence.
In great union of prayer,
Louis Raphael I Sako
Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans
